About BuildCalcHub
BuildCalcHub was created by Daniel Smith to provide free, reliable construction calculators for US homeowners and contractors. Every calculator is built from standard industry formulas and reviewed personally.
Why I Built This Site
I work alone on BuildCalcHub because I believe construction estimates should be free, transparent, and easy to get. Too many homeowners end up overpaying for materials or signing up for expensive software just to answer a simple question like “How much concrete do I need for a 10×10 slab?” This site exists to give you that answer in 30 seconds, without a signup form or a calculator hiding behind a paywall.
Every formula on this site is based on standard construction references — ASTM material specifications, ACI 318 concrete standards, IRC building code requirements, and industry-standard waste factors. I review each calculator against these references and update pricing data annually to reflect current US national averages.
What You Will Find Here
- Measurement Tools — Square footage, cubic yards, board feet, roof pitch, stair rise and run, and 13+ other measurement calculators. These help you measure spaces and materials before you buy.
- Material Calculators — Concrete, gravel, drywall, paint, tile, lumber, sod, and 20+ more. Enter your dimensions and get quantities in the units suppliers actually use.
- Cost Estimators — Deck, patio, driveway, kitchen remodel, fencing, roofing, and 20+ more. Rough cost ranges based on 2026 US national average contractor rates.
- DIY & Cost Guides — Step-by-step guides for measuring, estimating, and planning common home improvement projects.
How I Review Content
Each calculator follows a two-step process. First, the formula is implemented against the relevant industry standard (ASTM, ACI, IRC, or manufacturer data). Then I verify the output against known reference values — for example, cross-checking concrete bag counts against ready-mix cubic yardage, or validating cost ranges against RSMeans and contractor survey data. If something looks off, I fix it before publishing.
I also read every message that comes through the contact page. If you find an error or a formula that does not match your real-world experience, please report it. I fix calculator bugs within 1–2 business days.
What This Site Is Not
These calculators are planning tools, not engineering specifications. They produce reasonable estimates based on industry-standard defaults, but your actual project may differ based on local building codes, site conditions, supplier availability, and contractor pricing. Always verify measurements on site, check your local building department requirements, and get at least two to three contractor quotes before committing to a project.
BuildCalcHub does not accept sponsored content, does not sell user data, and does not require any account creation. The site is supported solely by minimal advertising (Google AdSense, maximum 2 ads per page) so the calculators stay free.
