Ceiling Tile Calculator
What This Calculator Does
The Ceiling Tile Calculator determines how many drop ceiling tiles you need for a suspended grid ceiling. Enter the room length and width, select the tile size, and get the exact number of tiles including 5% waste for cutting and fitting around edges.
Suspended (drop) ceilings are popular in basements, home offices, and commercial spaces for their ease of installation and access to plumbing and wiring above. Standard ceiling tiles are 2x2 ft or 2x4 ft - 2x2 tiles are more common in residential applications.
The calculator provides the tile count with 5% waste for cutting perimeter tiles. For most rooms, you will need to cut tiles on at least two sides to fit the exact dimensions.
How to Use
- Measure the room length and width in feet at the ceiling height.
- Select your tile size: 24x24 in (standard residential) or 24x48 in (commercial).
- Enter dimensions and select tile size in the calculator above.
- Click "Calculate" to see the number of tiles needed including 5% waste.
- Order the grid system separately - main tees, cross tees, and wall angles are sold by the linear foot.
